MotorLand Aragón pays tribute to Carlos Checa in the commemoration of 10 years of his podium in the Motul FIM Superbike World Championship.
This new edition of the Motul FIM World Superbike marks 10 years since the championship was held for the first time in MotorLand Aragón. 2011 was a very special year, not only for the commemoration of the tenth anniversary but also because Carlos Checa, a former MotoGP rider, was the first (and only) Spaniard to win the WorldSBK World Championship.
For this reason, the circuit decided to pay tribute to him by naming Turn 3, the most significant for him on the circuit, with his name. 10 years later we meet again to honor his effort and dedication to the world of Motorsport.
Michael Hill, WorldSBK official commentator, began the event with a viewing of the audiovisual piece, where a review of Carlos Checa's career throughout his career was made and some of the most important moments of his professional career were remembered as a motorcycle racer. It was a moment of great emotion for the Catalan rider "a very special video, very emotional for me as it reminds me of those moments; being able to remember and recall them is very special for me."
During the event he was accompanied by the Executive Director of Dorna, Gregorio Lavilla, as well as the manager of the facilities, Santiago Abad. Likewise, some of the most influential drivers of the current season attended; Jonathan Rea, Chaz Davies, Tito Rabat and Álvaro Bautista.
Santiago Abad highlighted the involvement of the circuit in WorldSBK and the close relationship that unites MotorLand Aragón with Carlos Checa. To conclude, Gregorio Lavilla closed the event by thanking all the attendees for the presence and expressing his hopes and wishes regarding the championship for the second half of the year.
